INTRODUCING "RAINIER COMMUNITY GARDEN"

From the Rainier Community Garden Facebook page:

About
The Rainier Community Garden is a new project developed by the Rainier High School Agriculture Instructor Angie Karnes and her Environmental Science Students. It will continue to grow with our support.

Mission
Our purpose is to bring the Rainier community and surrounding areas together and provide educational gardening opportunities for everyone while growing fresh food and impacting local hunger issues.

Description
The Rainier Community Garden in partnership with Rainier High School grows fresh vegetables together as a collective group and donates a portion to the local food bank.

The Garden was started by Rainier High School and is located on school campus. 36 raised beds have been built! 300lbs of vegetables were donated to the Rainier Food Bank in 2011. For the 2012 season, we're growing broccoli, cauliflower, swiss chard, beets, lettuce, peas, corn, beans, radishes, herbs, garlic, onions, cabbage, potatoes, carrots, spinach, tomatoes, strawberries, blueberries, raspberries. There's also an orchard with 21 cherry trees, apple, plum, pear and peach trees.

To find out more, come to our regular Weekly Work Parties.
Tuesdays: 4 - 7 p.m. | Saturdays: 9:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.

Everyone is welcome! New gardeners too!

The Garden is located at the south end of the Rainier High School parking lot by the large greenhouse. (308 Second Street West in downtown Rainier)
