AREA FALLEN SOLDIER MEMORIAL FUND ESTABLISHED

This writer wishes to share with the Yelm Community the
Justin Norton Scholarship Fund
honoring Rainier, Washington’s fallen soldier in Iraq.

Sgt. Norton wrote this about himself:
“I am 21 and from a small town in Washington state. I am a nice guy who likes to hang out with friends and meet new people. I enjoy working out indoors and outdoors. I seem to be looking for love in all the wrong places so I just quit looking. My motto is nice guys finish last but they do finish. I am in the army and deployed in Iraq.”

According to the sign posted at Arnold’s Country Inn entrance,
“One of his requests if he did not return was to have this fund established.”
Won’t you please consider making a generous donation?
Donations can be mailed to:

Justin Norton Scholarship Fund
c/o Yelm Area Chamber of Commerce
PO Box 444
Yelm, Wa 98597

Donations can also be made at any Key Bank. If going to a Key Bank outside of Washington State just mention that the account is set up in Washington State.

The goal is to provide funds for Rainier High School students and also reach out to Yelm and Tenino. The family would like this to become an ongoing foundation in Justin’s name.

  1. Steve,

I’m a proud Yelm-ite and I have to say I am disappointed by your actions. You seem to do anything in order to get into the news – even redirect Yelm.com to a picture of your huge head (and a very small Yelm water tower). Do you really believe you are bigger than the town?
You are doing a disservice to the Yelm community, and if nothing else will further divide the town. I’m friendly to members of the ramtha school, but you’re just going to cause people to dislike the ramtha followers and create even more tension.

My advice is to play a less offencive role in our community, stop trying to divide Yelm with your blog, and please – change that image. I know your ego is big, but this is enough to be labled propaganda.

Now predicably ignore my message, don’t post it on your blog, and continue being the most egotistical damaging member of the Yelm community.

    Jeremy.

  2. Dear Jeremy,

All letters ARE posted except those with foul language.
So, yours was posted for all to see.

Why do YOU think I divide the town, Jeremy?

What I have done is ask questions, point out things of interest, give information on where the reader can find the facts for themselves, invite experts to share their experience & create a community discussion.

What is your beef with that?
    Please explain?

Based on your posting, you may be unaware that my wife and I purchased the http://www.yelm.com & http://www.cityofyelm.com websites last Fall when they were up for sale by their owner. These links have never been owned by the City of Yelm. We own the Yelm.com, CityofYelm.com and YelmCommunity.org links and they redirect to one link because we choose to do that with them for now, as their owners. My picture is there so people know whose websites they are accessing, period.

Jeremy, I invite you to write a guest entry on anything you wish to share with our our town.
Fair enough? What do you say?

  3. I was mean spirted and you were not. I don’t really know you and it was very unfair.

I find it interesting that you bought Yelm.com. I was actually planning on buying it, but I never knew it was for sale. I was interested in starting a web design company called Yelm Web Design, located on Yelm.com. There goes that idea 😉 .

Again, I’m sorry. I had a bad day, and I looked at what I wrote and I’m ashamed of myself.

    You are a humble man.

My offer still stands if you would like to make a Guest Entry on Yelm’s Community Blog.

    All the best,
