YELM LOSING KEY JOBS

As this writer predicted, once the dust settles from the merger of Yelm Telephone (Ycom Networks) into Fairpoint Communications, many of the local faces there will be axed. The Nisqually Valley News reported just that in their November 3, 2006 edition saying that 11 of the 42 people in Yelm will be on lay-off effective December 20.

Further, the LASCO Bathware plant “laid-off one third of its workforce in Yelm on Oct. 5th.” LASCO will now be staying in Yelm and is expected to have met EPA requirements in the first quarter of 2007 eliminating 95% of emissions, saying the Yelm plant is now profitable. The lay-offs are the result of a downturn in demand due to slower housing starts.

Wal-Mart will soon be taking applications for its Yelm Superstore, expected to open in Spring, 2007…

  1. This is such rotten news and lousy company practice!!

Wish someone with local small town values and a genuine HEART would take over Yelm Telephone and axe the corporate mentality!!

They kept telling people…”nothing was going to change but the name” HA !!

Time to start looking for new service, eh?!
