YELM COULD TAKE A CUE FROM UNIQUE TASK FORCE IN GRAHAM
“Carol Wright, Executive Director of the Graham-Kapowsin Community Council, announced last week that she is forming a task force to introduce the widespread use of solar energy in Graham.
Initially concentrating on a single project to retrofit the Graham Youth House with a solar energy system, Wright hopes her team, and the success of the project, will steamroll into a larger effort throughout the commercial and residential sectors of our community. She also sees a tremendous educational opportunity for the residents of the house, who are students at the adjacent Graham-Kapowsin High School, and for the community as a whole….
Wright is also reaching out to the political and governmental sector. Matt Hamilton is an active member of the Graham Business Association and the Graham Land Use Advisory Committee, and has agreed to join her team.
The involvement of these political and governmental components of our community is very important to this project and the future of Graham, because Governor Chris Gregoire has called for the statewide reduction of carbon-emissions by 80 percent by 2050. This figure is considered by many environmental scientists, such as the UN Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, to be the necessary threshold to reverse the effects of global warming,” quoting Bruce Smith in the Eatonville Dispatch.
