YELM ROTARY CLUB OFFICIALLY CHARTERED FRIDAY

“The worlds first civic service organization, Rotary International (RI), is expanding into Yelm.”

Local members received a charter on March 9, 2010 to join RIs global association of 33,000 Rotary clubs in more than 200 countries and geographical areas.

The Rotary Club of Yelm plans to continue to serve the greater Yelm community (Yelm-Roy-Rainier-McKenna) with an emphasis on youth mentoring. They have already assisted a local life scout with his Eagle project, worked on a local food bank project, and adopted a portion of Hi-way 510 for cleanup. The club joins Rotarys global network of volunteers in enhancing their communities and promoting international goodwill through club projects, scholarships, cultural exchanges, and grants for development and humanitarian projects.

Club president, Christopher Haley says Rotary was founded over 100 years ago in Chicago, and now its
influence can be felt around the globe. Rotarys achievements provide an inspiring record of men and
women of all races, religions, nationalities, and creeds who have made significant contributions to create
a more peaceful and healthy world. We are excited to bring the Rotary vision and service to the Yelm
community.”

A celebration is planned for April 9th where the Yelm club will officially receive its charter from District Governor Alex Alexander. Many clubs from around the district, which extends from Longview to the tip of Vancouver Island, will be in attendance. Yelm becomes the 88th club in District 5020.
