– If anyone in the Nisqually Valley were to have their case taken up by the Washington State Supreme Court, wouldn’t that be a major, front-page headline in our local newspaper?
– If anyone in the Nisqually Valley were to have their case against the City of Yelm taken up by the Washington State Supreme Court after the State Appeals court overturned a Superior Court ruling, wouldn’t that be a front-page headline in our local newspaper?
The Nisqually Valley News (NVN) touts itself as serving all of the Nisqually Valley. Why have they omitted the news of the case: JZ Knight vs. the City of Yelm was granted a review by the Washington State Supreme Court on November 2nd?
THAT A YELM-AREA CITIZEN HAS THEIR CASE ACCEPTED FOR REVIEW BY THE WA. STATE SUPREME COURT IS BIG NEWS, DON’T YOU THINK?
Whenever the city has had a perceived victory in this case, as in the Washington Appeals Court overturning the Thurston County Superior Court case, that merited a front, top-of-page headline story with quotes from Mayor Harding.
Now, we have the Supreme Court granting to review the petition of
* Knight v. City of Yelm
and there has been nothing, nada, & nary a word!
And, not one word was mentioned about this during the public on-the-record Yelm City Council meeting on Tuesday, November 9, a case that if the Supreme Court overturns the Appeals Court ruling, will have major implications & ramifications for Yelm.
From the Mayor & City Council – nothing, nada, & nary a word!
Nope, the mayor’s column this week in the NVN is all about Phase 1 of the Yelm Bypass.
Interesting.
Given the newspaper went to press the night of the 3rd, I figured the NVN just couldn’t get this in their November 5th edition. Then, when this major story was not in both the November 12 & 19th editions, something was amiss.
The NVN cannot say they did not know because they get all details from City Hall (which the city received on the 2nd) & their staff reads this Blog daily, so would have seen the November 10th Blog entry.
And, if upon reading this blog, the NVN just performed a cursory search engine query, they would have found the official Washington Courts Petitions for Review website dated, November 2, 2010, Department One listing No. 16, “Knight v. City of Yelm
Granted”.
A KEY QUESTION REMAINS:
WHY HAVE NISQUALLY VALLEY NEWS READERS & YELM CITIZENS BEEN KEPT IN THE DARK ABOUT THE WASHINGTON STATE SUPREME COURT’S DECISION GRANTING REVIEW OF JZ KNIGHT’S CASE AGAINST THE CITY?
HMMM!
UPDATE 11:35am:
NVN Publisher/Editor Keven Graves called me just a few minutes ago to say he was unaware of this story and would have printed, if so.
In fairness, while the story was listed on JZ Knight’s website, there was no Press Release from Ms. Knight or Ramtha’s School of Enlightenment.
However, in the November 5th edition of the Nisqually Valley News, this was the top-of-fold headline in their print edition and online web-link:
“Man arrested after trying to save channeler”
“An elderly Yelm man was arrested last week after trying to save JZ Knight.”
Interesting that JZ Knight nor Ramtha’s School of Enlightenment issued any Press Release on this story either, yet this found its way to NVN front-page coverage.
I referred Mr. Graves to his sources at Yelm City Hall to ascertain why they did not notify him of the November 2nd WA. Supreme Court acceptance for review of Ms. Knight’s petition, since these were public documents.
Will be interesting what he reports.
