From Rolf Boone in The Olympian:
“McDonalds restaurants throughout South Sound were busier than usual Tuesday [April 19], serving food and interviewing prospective job candidates as part of an employment effort to hire 50,000 people throughout the country in one day.
McDonalds restaurants participating in Tuesdays [April 19] hiring day included six restaurants in Thurston County owned by longtime franchise owner Laurie Berryman…
Berryman is a true believer in the value of a job with McDonalds.
She started when she was 16 and never looked back, having now spent nearly 34 years with the company. Berryman today owns McDonalds franchises in Olympia, Tumwater, west Olympia, Yelm, Lacey and at the Pilot Travel Center on 93rd avenue.
‘This is not a dead-end job,’ Berryman said, adding that for new hires there is plenty of opportunity for training and advancement. ‘Ive learned more from McDonalds than I did in high school.’
Although Berrymans restaurants are hiring, the turnover rate at her restaurants has fallen, likely because of the slower economy, she said.”
