YELM COUPLE’S DEATHS “MIGHT BE… MURDER-SUICIDE”

Jeremy Pawloski of the The Olympian is reporting:
“The Thurston County Sheriffs Office is investigating whether an 81-year-old Yelm man committed a murder-suicide by giving his wife a toxic chemical cocktail in their home before drinking it himself…

Anthony Fetter and his 81-year-old wife, Keiko, were found dead May 9 at their home in the 14000 block of 129th Lane Southeast in Yelm…

Keiko Fetter ‘had very accelerated dementia and was not able to speak in full sentences’ according to an affidavit written by Thurston County Sheriffs Detective Cameron Simpers affidavit. ‘She had difficulty walking and caring for herself. Keiko had been hospitalized recently due to complications. She was released to her husband, with the assumption that he would care for her at the residence with the assistance of an in-home caregiver.'”

As reported here May 17 quoting a KIRO-TV-7 News report:
“A Yelm couple found dead in their home Monday [May 9] committed suicide by consuming a cocktail of chemicals, the Thurston County Sheriff’s Office said Friday [May 13].

‘This is the first chemical suicide that we’ve encountered'” said Lt. Greg Elwin with the Sheriff’s Office.

The chemicals sickened deputies who first responded to the scene and entered the house to investigate.

‘The mixture that goes into these suicide cocktails is clearly fatal and certainly hazardous to first responders,’ Elwin said.”

Megan Hanson of the Nisqually Valley News is reporting:
“Contrary to some media and blog reports, police have not determined the cause of death for a Yelm couple found dead in their home last week.

‘We are investigating it as a suicide,’ said Thurston County Sheriff spokesman Greg Elwin.

‘Thats the best plausible explanation’

‘Thats how were looking at it’

However, an official determination cannot be made until two sets of results come back.”

Ed. Note:
Ms. Hanson’s report is incorrect where she states:
“Contrary to some media and blog reports, police have not determined the cause of death for a Yelm couple found dead in their home last week.”

Ms. Hanson should do more than a cursory read to see the media and this blog listed direct quotes from Thurston County Sheriff spokesman Greg Elwin.
NO ONE has ever said the cause of death was determined, other than what a reader might infer from quotes by the Thurston County Sheriff’s office.

Instead, Hanson should have stated Sheriff spokesman Greg Elwin’s report to the media was premature:
‘This is the first chemical suicide that we’ve encountered'” said Lt. Greg Elwin with the Sheriff’s Office.
She does a disservice to her readers with such pablum.
