YELM SCHOOLS ANNOUNCES PUBLIC FORUM THURSDAY ON LEVY

2012 LEVY BEING FORMULATED BY SCHOOL BOARD

The public is invited to an informational/planning meeting on Thursday, September 15, at 7 p.m. The purpose of the meeting is to develop a recommendation for the school board regarding a 2012 levy election. This levy would replace the current levy passed in 2008 due to expire in 2012.

Items to be discussed include:
Basic school finance
The new role of our levy in this financial climate
Two-year vs. four-year levy
Election date

Date & Time:

Thursday, September 15, 2011 – 7 p.m.

Location:
Yelm Community Schools
District Office Board Room
107 First St. N
Yelm, WA 98597

This area has always supported our local schools.
The key question this time is how many more taxes and fees property owners can carry, what with Yelm’s annual tax increases and annual water rate increases, the “burden” of some unknown amount to purchase the current library facility and other escalating costs.

The schools levy will come on the heels of the City of Yelm’s announcement to city property owners about their tab for the library, which then could place the school’s levy in jeopardy, with so much being placed on the backs of city property owners.

Stay tuned…
