As reported here previously, Anchor Bank closed their Yelm branch in Wal-Mart, citing a declining number of walk-in customers handling their financial affairs in a physical location, due to direct-deposit and online banking.
“‘We will continue to provide services to the Yelm customers through our other branches located within the Thurston County Market,’ stated Jerald L. Shaw, President and Chief Executive Officer.”

So, a bank could not justify the expenses of a physical location in Yelm, yet a credit union moved into the vacant Wal-Mart location and is opening a new, free-standing building.
HMMM…
“Two new branches are coming soon to Yelm! The free-standing location will open February 18, 2012 and the Walmart in-store location will open March 21, 2012,” touts America’s Credit Union (ACU) website. A credit union is owned by the members, which are affiliated through some association, in this case, one that began in 1954 for anyone who is associated with the U.S. Army, many of which live in the Yelm area.
