YELM: City’s building permits approval ratchets back up

Even with citizens’ appeal of Ecology doubling Yelm’s water allocation still in-process, the City of Yelm is moving full-speed ahead with MORE growth by approving so many new building permits, up almost 100% over the same period last year, even as Yelm is choked now with traffic:

“Construction on new homes is on rise in Tumwater, Yelm and Lacey”

“Single-family building permits through the first six months of the year, compared with the same period in 2011, have increased to 93 from 62 in Tumwater, have risen to 141 from 115 in Lacey, and have grown to 50 from 26 in Yelm, according to data compiled by The Olympian,” quoting Rolf Boone in The Olympian.

A reminder of what Mayor Harding said after his March, 2011 State of the City Address:

“I know some will look at these numbers [the population growth doubling here in the last 10 years] and think that our population growth is a bad thing, considering more traffic, larger schools, increased service demands and cost. This may be true, but a growing population also provides the ability to build new roads, schools and provide services not currently available.”

“We want to be progressive; we want housing values to increase; we want job growth and the ability to access services here locally rather than traveling to surrounding areas. What we must strive for is to accommodate and encourage growth in a controlled and well-planned environment.”

MAYOR HARDING AND THE CITY OF YELM HAVE DONE JUST THE OPPOSITE OF ENCOURAGING “GROWTH IN A CONTROLLED AND WELL-PLANNED ENVIRONMENT!”

DOUBLING THE WATER ALLOCATION, PLANNING ON QUADRUPLING THE TOWN’S POPULATION AND ADDING MORE TRAFFIC, ALL IN VIOLATION OF THE YELM VISION PLAN ARE ALL INDICATIVE THEY HAVE NO INTENT OF CONTROLLED GROWTH.
