This Blog endorses Romero, Lachney & Heck

The Yelm Community Blog endorses:
– Thurston County Commissioner Sandra Romero
– LD2 Candidate Bruce Lachney
– 10th Congressional District candidate Denny Heck

Sandra Romero

The Olympian said this best:
“Wolfe, Romero should be returned to county commission”
“That would be a mistake because incumbents Cathy Wolfe and Sandra Romero have exhibited great leadership by recognizing the impacts of the coming recession early in 2008 and acting decisively to make cuts in personnel and reorganizing county operations for savings and efficiencies.

While other governments, such as the state and cities such as Olympia, mostly ignored the fiscal warning signs, Wolfe and Romero were leading the charge to reduce the cost and size of county government.

By doing so they restored financial health to Thurston County.”

Absolutely correct!

Bruce Lachney

From The Olympian:
“Bruce Lachney would serve Olympia, 2nd District well”
“Leaders in the state Democratic Party sought out Lachney, 52, to take on Becker, and its easy to see why they consider him the right candidate to buck the odds in this Republican-leaning district.”

“A trustee at Clover Park Technical College and former Eatonville School Board director, Lachney wants to boost the number of school days students spend learning in a typical year. Lengthening the school year would cost the state more money, but Lachney believes a thorough reform of the state tax code, which dates back to 1935 could put the state on more solid financial ground to fund public education.”

“Lachneys career includes a six-year stint in the Marine Corps and 22 years as a Delta Airlines pilot. He has leadership qualities and an understanding of military issues that mesh well with the large population of active and retired military personnel in his district.

Rural land use issues are not foreign to Lachney. Hes served on the Pierce County Planning Commission and is actively engaged in his familys Eatonville area farm, a 94-acre spread that produces cranberries for Ocean Spray, cattle, hay, timber and rhubarb.

While Lachneys bold political reform ideas will meet some resistance in Olympia, the budget crisis facing this state is so deep and broad, it requires politicians with vision and intellect. Lachney fits the bill.”

Denny Heck

From The Suburban Times:
“Denny Heck is a strong advocate for the middle class. In Congress, Denny will stand up for working families and provide independent leadership for this new district instead of being just another vote for the extreme Republican agenda that puts millionaires first and ends Medicare for Washington seniors,” said Congressman Steve Israel, Chairman of the DCCC.

Heck is running in the newly created 10th Congressional District. The 10th is a Democratic district that gave President Obama 58% of the major party vote in 2008.

Denny Heck, 59, is an entrepreneur, former State Representative and co-founder of TVW, a statewide public affairs TV channel in Washington State. Denny attended and graduated from The Evergreen State College in 1973 and has lived in Olympia for the past 26 years with his wife Paula and their two children, Bob and Trey. Denny and Paula, a retired middle school principal, have been married 36 years.”
