From BIll Owen, Fire Commissioner F.D.Thurston 17 (Bald Hills):
“The Bald Hills Fire Department is now sponsoring a Fire Cadet program. Fire Cadets are young men and women ages 14 (in the 8th grade) to 21 years old. They learn the fundamentals of fire fighting and emergency medicine. This training will give them a taste of what serving in the fire service is like. It can be preparation for a life time of work (volunteer or career) in the fire service. Of course the real benefit is the self confidence, discipline, communication, and leadership skills that members will develop. The Cadets have their own leadership positions and much of the learning is done peer to peer.

The program is directed by George Gendron who joined us last summer from South Pierce Fire and Rescue. He has 30+ years of experience in the fire service.

As always, new volunteers are welcome. We drill Tuesday nights. I invite anyone interested, with questions, or whod like a tour of the fire station to come by.”

Ed. Note: My wife & I have visited occasionally on Tuesday nights through the years and love our fire volunteers and their whole operation. I also invite you to stop by and introduce yourselves to know them now rather than just meeting them in an emergency.
