A Sovereign Citizen movement member convicted of advising people in a tax fraud scheme was sentenced Friday to more than eight years in prison, according to the U.S. Attorneys Office.
Raymond Leo Jarlik Bell of Yelm also must pay $705,276 in restitution and serve three years of supervised release.
He was convicted in March on five counts of filing false, fictitious and fraudulent claims, three counts of mail fraud, 15 counts of assisting in filing false tax returns and one count of criminal contempt.
His wife, Ute Christine Jarlik Bell, another member of the movement, was convicted of four counts of filing false, fictitious and fraudulent claims. She will be sentenced Tuesday [June 18].
