– “Plastic bag ban starts to roll across region”
“It seems inevitable now that thin, single-use plastic grocery bags will become a relic of the past. Tumwater City Council and the Thurston County Commission both approved an ordinance this week that is being considered countywide to ban the bags.
Other South Sound councils should follow suit.
The bag ban is spreading across Washington and developing into a nationwide trend. Its popular because most of the 30 billion bags used annually in America end up washing down rivers or streams into the ocean. They are the second-most common trash items found on ocean beaches,” quoting The Olympian.
Yelm’s City Council had the chance to take a leadership role on this issue and passed the opportunity, as par-usual, covered here:
– July 12, 2012
– June 10, 2012
As I said then:
Will this city take the lead and act on this?
Or, as usual, will Yelm just jump on the bandwagon following Olympia, Lacey, Tumwater & Thurston County?
NOW WE KNOW!
Yelm will have to capitulate and ban plastic bags in a county wide move.
