“Thurston ‘State of Community’ hopeful for 2014”

“The economic outlook for the four main cities in Thurston County, and the county as a whole: Hopeful, yet challenging.

That was the consensus of the leaders for Lacey, Olympia, Tumwater, Yelm and the Thurston County Commission, who today [January 8, 2014] gave their 2014 summaries at the Thurston Chamber “State of the Community” event.

Chamber Chair Mike Marohn mediated the panel, which included Lacey Mayor Virgil Clarkson, Tumwater Mayor Pete Kmet, Olympia Mayor Stephen Buxbaum, Yelm Mayor Ron Harding, and Thurston County Commissioners Chair Karen Valenzuela.

Some of the challenges being solved across the county last year, which will continue to be at the forefront in 2014, include workforce development, the legislative agenda, military transitioning and shoreline development, Marohn said.”

Editor’s Note:
Hopefully, Yelm will have a more engaged and present Mayor Ron Harding in 2014, as he is no longer double-dipping with two taxpayer-supported paychecks in also occupying a full-time County Deputy Auditor position, as in 2013.
