From Brad Shannon in The Olympian:
“J.Z. Knight, the Yelm-based spirit channeler with followers around the world, has given $65,000 to Thurston County Democrats for political activities this year, the largest of any donor. The move reverses a position of Democrats in 2012 when the state Democratic Party gave away $70,000 and local Democratic candidates gave away smaller contributions from Knight and her Ramtha School of Enlightenment [RSE].”
“This time, the county party is resisting calls by the Freedom Foundation, the libertarian-styled think tank in Olympia that posted the videos, and state Sen. Tim Sheldon to give the money back. Party chairman Roger Erskine said he welcomes the money that will be used to sponsor a yearly Kennedy dinner later this year and assist with party activities, but not used for donations to candidates.
‘Were comfortable that is she is in fact a good Democrat and she supports our program. Were thankful for the gift,’ Erskine said. ‘We reported this quite a while ago (to the Public Disclosure Commission). We have not had a single inquiry.'”
Ramtha’s School of Enlightenment issued this update May 7:
“On April 29, we made a statement about admissions made by both Virginia Coverdale and David McCarthy in Court proceedings. We want to clarify that the statement as to editing by Virginia Coverdale in the Washington case was made under oath. The admission by Mr McCarthy that he edited RSE videos before disseminating them was not made under oath but in his statement of defense which the public is entitled to access.
We know from our own scrutiny of the videos that David, who owns a video editing business, has edited the videos to create the impressions he wanted, including altering audio tracks from the original video recordings.
This clarification does not change the fact that, it has taken a lot of time, money and effort to reveal the lengths to which our critics have gone to cast us in a false light in order to support their vitriolic agenda, having an effect on so many lives.”
The continued use of the word “Cult” about RSE:
“Catherine Wessinger (Loyola University New Orleans) has stated that the word “cult” represents just as much prejudice and antagonism as racial slurs or derogatory words for women and homosexuals. She has argued that it is important for people to become aware of the bigotry conveyed by the word, drawing attention to the way it dehumanises the group’s members and their children. Labeling a group as subhuman, she says, becomes a justification for violence against it.”
