Seattle-to-Portland bicycle classic here this weekend

From Cascade Bicycle Club:
“This 200-mile bicycle ride is the largest multi-day bicycle event in the Northwest, with up to 10,000 participants riding from Seattle to Portland in one or two days. The route takes you through the scenic valleys, forests, and farmlands of western Washington and Oregon. Come ride what Bicycling Magazine has listed as one of the best cycling events in the nation!”

The route will be altered this year to bypass heavy downtown Yelm traffic:
– Yelm Ave. left onto Clark Rd. SE
– bearing right onto 109th Ave. SE
– bearing right onto Mill Rd. SE
– left onto SR-507
– right onto Brighton Rd. SE
– then left onto the Yelm/Rainier/Tenino Trail
The 14.5 mile Yelm-to-Tenino Trail will close to the general public from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday to allow an estimated 10,000 bicyclists pass through.

“The Yelm High School FFA sponsors a mini-stop every year at McKenna Elementary on Highway 507. Located 69 miles into the ride, the mini-stop is one of Yelm FFAs top fundraisers and brings in about $3,000 for scholarships and more, said board treasurer Faith Fredrickson.”
