Noted speaker Michael Tellinger in Yelm

THE TRIAD THEATER PRESENTS TWO EXITING LECTURES!
Michael Tellinger has become an international authority on the origins of humankind and the vanished civilizations of southern Africa. Scholars have told us that the first civilization on Earth emerged in a land called Sumer some 6000 years ago. New archaeological and scientific discoveries made by Michael Tellinger, Johan Heine and a team of leading scientists, show that the Sumerians and even the Egyptians inherited all their knowledge from an EARLIER civilization that lived at the southern tip of Africa more than 200,000 years ago mining gold.

Open seats in County & now City Council McGowan’s

Yelm Council member Mike McGowan
Photo Credit: City of Yelm website

– City of Yelm Council member Mike McGowan resigns –
no longer a city resident

Yelm City Council member Mike McGoawn has resigned 8 months into his third term on the Yelm City Council because he is moving outside the city limits. McGowan originally ran for this seat in 2005, was reelected unopposed in 2009 and 2013, beginning his third term just last January.

Once McGowan became familiar with his position, he championed public issues on a council that otherwise all voted together in “rubber-stamping” city Staff Reports. He was very active with The Thurston County HOME Consortium and an advocate of affordable housing and social services for our area. He will continue as an employee of the Yelm Timberland Regional Library (TRL).

His positions on the following recent issues were of particular note:
– March 22, 2011 – stood-up to Mayor Harding and Mayor Pro-tem Bob Isom, who wanted to curb McGowan’s questions on the Medical Marijuana Moratorium. McGowan, while voting FOR the moratorium, expressed his concern prior to the vote and unanimous approval. Now state law, McGowan proven right.

– June 28, 2011 – only council member voting “no” to name the Yelm bypass ‘connector’ road Walmart Boulevard, questioning an appearance of a conflict-of-interest that the city is endorsing a specific business, in this instance, mega-retailer Wal-mart.

– May 8, 2012 – voted noted on-the-record that while he agreed with a pay-out for the golf course water rights litigation, he was voting “no” and stated, “I think the public should have the opportunity to comment,”
after a closed-to-the-public Executive Session.

“Holocaust Survivor On Police Militarization:
‘Like Little Boys Playing With Toys'”

“St. Louis resident and 90-year-old Holocaust survivor Hedy Epstein was one of several demonstrators arrested for protesting the police killing of African-American teenager Michael Brown and the law enforcement crackdown on the resulting protests. One part of a nine-person human-chain, Epstein was handcuffed, transported to a police station and then booked for refusal to disperse. RTs Marina Portnaya sat down with Epstein to get her story and thoughts on the police response to the unrest in Ferguson,” quoting the RT.

Clearwood Community handling 2 major issues

Proposed AT&T cell tower site is on the hill adjacent two water tanks on lower-right

– From the Petition against Clearwood area Cell Tower:
A proposed AT&T Cell Tower would be located on Weyerhaeuser property next to the Clearwood Community on Bald Hill Road, which is just south of Yelm.

From those against the cell tower –
The proposed Cell Tower would:
1) Decrease Property Values
2) Have a detrimental effect on the Wildlife in the area – birds, animals and bees are all affected.
3) Have a significant effect on Human Health for anyone living near the cell tower.
It is documented that the most susceptible populations are fetuses/pregnant women, children and
the elderly, with impacts extending to the 3rd generation and beyond – including:
* DNA damage
* Brain and other Cancers
* Childhood Leukemia and Impaired Immune Systems
* Decreased Memory and Attention in school children.
Bottom line:
Many Clearwood property owners, residents and Bald Hills neighbors say the issue to protect the wetlands, the migratory birds and protected/endangered specie,s as well as the residents in the area. The Bald Hills area enjoys a rich diversity of wildlife and to place a cell tower in the middle of it would destroy the character of the neighborhood.”

– Clearwood Board voter fraud alleged
Several property owners in the Clearwood Community are running a campaign to bring in Professional Management, alleging voter fraud by their Board in not following State Law, the Community’s Covenants, and their own Member Resolutions.
Bottom line:
Many Clearwood property owners, residents “say that bringing in a Professional Mgt Co would do much to end the divisiveness in Clearwood, as well as protecting community assets. The days of haphazard managing styles, and selective enforcement of CC&Rs by inexperienced, volunteers are over.”

Introducing the Real Food Movement

From Dr. Mercola’s website:

Take Control of Your Health by Joining the Real Food Movement

If you really want to be sure your food is healthy and safe, it would be best to avoid grocery stores as much as possible, as conventionally-raised livestock, including chickens, are far from ideal. The more we all make it a point to only buy food from a source we know and trust, the faster factory farming will become a shameful practice of the past. Farmers and lovers of real food show us that change is possible. Here are a few suggestions for how you can take affirmative action to protect your and your family’s health:

Buy local products whenever possible. Otherwise, buy organic and fair-trade products.
Shop at your local farmers market, join a CSA (Community Supported Agriculture), or buy from local grocers and co-ops committed to selling local foods. The following organizations can help you locate farm-fresh foods in your local area that has been raised in a humane, sustainable manner:
Local Harvest — This Web site will help you find farmers’ markets, family farms, and other sources of sustainably grown food in your area where you can buy produce, grass-fed meats, and many other goodies.
Farmers’ Markets — A national listing of farmers’ markets.
Eat Well Guide: Wholesome Food from Healthy Animals — The Eat Well Guide is a free online directory of sustainably raised meat, poultry, dairy, and eggs from farms, stores, restaurants, inns, and hotels, and online outlets in the United States and Canada.
Community Involved in Sustaining Agriculture (CISA) — CISA is dedicated to sustaining agriculture and promoting the products of small farms.
FoodRoutes — The FoodRoutes “Find Good Food” map can help you connect with local farmers to find the freshest, tastiest food possible. On their interactive map, you can find a listing for local farmers, CSAs, and markets near you.
Support restaurants and food vendors that buy locally produced food.
Avoid genetically engineered (GMO) foods. Buying certified organic ensures your food is non-GM.
Cook, can, ferment, dry, and freeze. Return to the basics of cooking, and pass these skills on to your children.

Grow your own garden, or volunteer at a community garden. Teach your children how to garden and where their food comes from.
Volunteer and/or financially support an organization committed to promoting a sustainable food system.
Get involved in your community. Influence what your child eats by engaging the school board. Effect city policies by learning about zoning and attending city council meetings. Learn about the federal policies that affect your food choice, and let your congressperson know what you think.
Spread the word! Share this article with your friends, family, and everyone else you know.

Brenda’s Farm Stand in Yelm

About Brendas Farm Stand
Established in 2011, when I purchased the property.
Thought I would try my hand at gardening. Started with raised beds. Planted, nothing happened in the now got bored.
Thought I would do the backyard. Planted, got tired of waiting – in the now thought I would do the lower field!
Im not bored anymore.

My Philosophy
Food, so far everyone I know needs it!
and I have gone from poor diet choices to good diet choices, meat eater, vegetarian, vegan, raw foods and back again. Cared about food then to busy and didnt care.

However I know the more quality and energy I put into my food choices the healthier and better I felt.

So in planting I have tried to put in smarter, better, none GMO seeds, plants and supplements. The produce does taste better, superior I am still amazed how flavorful and fresh just out of the garden food tastes.

Affordable!
Food prices! I cant believe retail costs.

I now understand how Nike can produce a shoe for $10.00 and after shipping, packaging, advertising and profit, selling for $110.00. Every step in the retail chain someone is adding on their expenses and costs.

I have cut out the middle man. Direct to consumer and minimal packaging is my motto. I encourage people to recycle bring their own bags and bring me their extra shopping bags, used egg cartons or produce containers.

The produce is loose, you choose the quantity. How many times have you bought a package of herbs, as that was the only option, and thrown most of it out cause you only needed a bit? Well I understand that the packaging cost more than the herb, they need to sell at a certain price point for it to be profitable!

I dont have that limitation. Herbs are loose you can pick a sprig of thyme, or mint, or oregano and just pay for the herb!

Convenient
Traveling 20 minutes to save a $1.00 is not very economical especially with todays gas prices, nor is it convenient.

Located just down the street or almost in your backyard it is convenient to stop in and get your produce and herbs fresh! Opening times are chosen to fit in with your busy lifestyles. Stop on the way home from work and if your in a hurry view the latest flyer and email pre-order or go directly to online ordering. Your order will be ready and waiting for you when you arrive.

Solar works, even in the rainy Northwest

– “Home Solar Panels Make Gains in America, Even in Rainy Seattle”
“Going solar is expensive, but a confluence of plummeting equipment prices, rising utility bills, new financing schemes and a raft of federal, state, and local incentives are encouraging homeowners across America to take the plunge and put photovoltaic panels on their roofs, even in rainy Seattle.

In 2013, 792 megawatts of solar capacity was installed on homes. That figure is expected to increase 61 percent in 2014 and another 53 percent in 2015, according to the Solar Energy Industries Association, a Washington-based trade group. A megawatt of solar capacity is typically enough to power 200 average U.S. homes, though the number varies depending on factors such as available sunlight and panel orientation,” quoting John Roach, NBC News.

“Few places in the country are so warm and bright as Mary Wilkersons property on the beach near St. Petersburg, Fla., a city once noted in the Guinness Book of World Records for a 768-day stretch of sunny days.

But while Florida advertises itself as the Sunshine State, power company executives and regulators have worked successfully to keep most Floridians from using that sunshine to generate their own power,” quoting Evan Halper, Liberty Crier.

Twin Star Credit Union warns of phishing scam

– “Local Credit Union warns of phishing scam received by some members”
“TwinStar Credit Union is warning of a phishing scam thats targeting their members. Emails received by some claim that their access to online banking has been terminated, and include a link to a fake website to reset their password. The website appears similar to the credit unions online banking page. It asks for your member number, password, email address, and email password. If that isnt a big enough clue TwinStar says you should always access your online banking directly from their website at www.twinstarCU.com.

Twinstar is telling its members: Do NOT enter any information in this site. If you have already done so, contact us right away at 1-800-258-3115,” quoting Dave Haviland, KBKW News (94.7 FM, and 1450 AM, Gray’s Harbor County).
