Thurston County Sheriff issues statement on Phone Scam

Thurston County Sheriff John Snaza

Press release from the Thurston County Sheriff:
“Several citizens of Thurston County have received phone calls where the caller states they are from the IRS. The caller tells the citizen that they owe back taxes and demand a cash payment or a warrant will be issued. The unidentified person calls back a few minutes later, identifying himself as Sheriff John Snaza of the Thurston County Sheriffs Office. The caller ID shows the phone number to be from (360) 786-5500, the main number to TCSO. The caller states that there has been a warrant issued and again attempts to extort funds.

Please note that the Thurston County Sheriffs Office nor any other law enforcement agency will make phone calls asking for money. If you or anyone else you know receives these type of calls, know that it is a scam and hang up.

The Thurston County Sheriffs Office would like citizens to be aware and cautious of this phone scam. If anyone receives a phone call, demanding money or personal information, please call Thurston County Communication at (360)704-2740.”
