– “Paddle to Nisqually” presentation comes to Yelm April 19
From Yelm Community Schools:
You are invited to join Hanford McCloud and the Nisqually Nation for a presentation on the upcoming “Paddle to Nisqually” Canoe Journey. This presentation will include an overview of the week long event from July 30 – Aug 6. Over 10,000 people will travel from as far away as Alaska to Washington to join in the celebration. This will be a great opportunity to showcase our communities and provide services to those who are traveling. At the same time, it is a unique experience to participate in. The Nisqually Nation is looking for volunteers throughout the event.
The presentation will discuss the opportunities for involvement and highlight the music, dance, and traditions that will be a part of the Canoe Journey.

– From the Leschi Heritage Foundation:
“The Leschi Heritage Foundation is honored to coordinate the Paddle to Nisqually, Canoe Journey 2016. This event involves over a year of planning by hosting tribes; bringing together natives and non-natives with a common goal of providing a drug and alcohol free event and offering pullers a personal journey towards healing and recovery of culture, traditional knowledge and spirituality. Many events are open to the public.”
