Public Safety Building housing Council Chambers, Yelm
As of Monday morning, April 11, 2016, the Yelm City Council Agenda of April 12, 2016 has no Old Business or New Business listed yet again, as has occurred numerous times since January 1, 2016. With Mayor Harding acting as the full-time City Administrator and now with interim City Administrator Bill Brandon, who Mr. Harding said will serve on an “as needed” basis, why is no business on the Council’s Agenda, with so many issues from these departments requiring public disclosure and Council oversight, as examples:
* Public Safety (Police force under-staffing, possibly losing Officer Moody),
* Public Works (Water/Sewage physical plant at capacity & needed infrastructure upgrades),
* Community Development (Incomplete Community Center “punch items” status, skate-park patrons lining-up dangerously close to 1st St. traffic),
* Mayor’s Office (full-time City Administrator candidates interviews status).

Editor’s note:
Mr. Brandon, as interim “as needed” City Administrator, needs to immediately address the issue of no Council business on the Agenda. While the City Council’s main role under Mayor Harding’s 11+ year direction has been to “rubber stamp” whatever he puts forth or omits with little question, that is changing, as 3 newly-elected Councilors ask tough questions before they add their vote to an issue.
