Yelm Interim City Council Pos. 1 Application now available to city electors

Public Safety Building housing Council Chambers, Yelm

– Yelm Interim City Council Pos. 1 Applicants now accepted
With the appointment of Interim Mayor JW Foster leaving his former council seat vacant, the city of Yelm is now accepting applications from the public for city council.

– The RCW is clear on the qualifications for those to be considered:
RCW 42.12.070 Filling nonpartisan vacancies.
“(1)Where one position is vacant, the remaining members of the governing body shall appoint a qualified person to fill the vacant position.”
1. U. S. & WA citizen,
2. age 18 and above,
3. elector within the city limits.

– Editor’s Note:
While former city council candidates who previous lost their elections and/or served for a year as interim councilor may be at the top of the list to consider for appointment, I am elated to hear Mayor Foster is committed to more transparency in city government and wants to involve community members to be part of the governing process. This means he will insure the council considers all applicants without bias. However, his actions will speak louder than mere words.
