“In 2007, after 20 years and over 20,000 hours of meditation seeking “enlightenment,” I came to the end of seeking. I understood that to experience liberation there has to be a self around to experience it. And liberation is the absence of self. Cate Montana doesn’t really exist—identity is a chimera, a construct of the mind based in the illusion of separation and physicality. And yet there I was, reflecting upon my illusory status as a human being … as a human being! How was I supposed to reconcile that?

It took me years slipping into and out of unity consciousness to understand what was going on. In December 2014 I felt compelled to write about what I’d learned about the ego because THAT is what is tripping humanity up. We’re completely ignorant of the nature of the ego and who we really are. In the process of writing, I realized there is a middle state of awareness between personal ego and transcendent awareness called transpersonal consciousness, where the sense of self is expanded to include others and life itself. And that this unifying stepping-stone state can be taught. The E Word became a coaching manual and Simon & Schuster’s Enliven publisher loved it and bought it. The rest is history. The book comes out Jan 17th.”
