– YBA responds to council decision on Community Center naming proposal
“The Yelm Business Assn. (YBA) Board first presented the idea of the Yelm Community Center naming to the city council in June 2015.
We felt this would be a commendable way to recognize the contributions of the Wolf Family for over 80 years to the fabric of life in Yelm.
While there are other Yelm citizens, families, and Nisqually Tribe residents equally deserving of consideration, we are elated our request was properly vetted. This issue brought important information to Yelm citizens that the Yelm Municipal Code (YMC) has an ordinance and procedures to name city buildings, and specifically that the public is to be a part of that process. We are elated our friends and neighbors had the opportunity to respond with their views on naming the Yelm Community Center, over a year and a half after being presented to the council. The YBA Board thanks the Nisqually Valley News (NVN) for presenting our proposal to their readers on several occasions.”
