“The Skate Park recreational area and parking lots are closed until further notice. The porta potty was set on fire and is now unusable, and beer cans and alcohol were littered across the adjacent lawn area. The Police Department is investigating and will make an arrest for arson, which is a felony. We treat this seriously and apologize for any inconvenience caused by the poor decisions of others.

* The City of Yelm Government Facebook page reports cameras identified the prime suspect and an arrest has been made.
* The Yelm Police Dept. added this on their Facebook page:
“As many of you are aware the Yelm Skate Park has been closed down effective today due to excessive littering, vandalism and most recently, arson. Signs have been posted around the gated area advising of the closure. We have heard from several area youth that are upset over the closure and angry at the few that caused it. When the park does re-open we are asking for help from the users to help the city keep the park open by picking up trash and reporting offenses observed.
This park, like others in our city, are in place for the enjoyment of everyone. A gathering place where families and youth can congregate and enjoy what the parks have to offer. Consistent damage and complete lack of respect for property ruins it for everyone at the expense of the hard working tax payers in our city. At this time there is no timeline for when the park will re-open. An arrest was made and the juvenile has been booked into Thurston County Youth Detention Center for Felony Arson.”
