Thurston Commissioners FINALLY get it!
County drops Convention Center proposal

Covered here previously, “Who’s on First,” as county has mud in their face on this one!
Time for the County Commissioners to get back to work on how to fund the county courthouse renovations, jail expansion, and other immediate areas of concern, instead of wasting time, energy and resources on something the county’s 4 largest cities declined to participate.

– “Thurston County Commission pulls the plug on convention center proposal — for now”
“A day after a public hearing on a proposed publicly funded convention center, the Board of Thurston County Commissioners pulled the plug on the idea for 2017, unanimously agreeing not to place the issue on November’s election ballot.”

“The cities of Olympia, Lacey, Tumwater, Yelm and Rainier opted out of the proposed district, and 30 of 33 written comments the county received on the issue were opposed to the proposal.”

“Former Olympia Mayor Bob Jacobs said cities throughout the country have pursued public convention centers, seemingly because others have done so, and at great public expense.

‘Our lack of a public convention center in Thurston County is something we should all be proud of,’ he told the commission. ‘It proclaims to the world that we are not lemmings,’” by Rolf Boone, The Olympian.
