– Yelm’s Chamber to host a Candidates Forum at their Oct. Chamber Forum/Luncheon:
“Michael Wagar, Editor of Nisqually Valley News will be moderating a town hall discussion between Yelm’s two mayoral candidates, JW Foster & Joe DePinto. City council candidates have been invited to introduce themselves and share their reasons for seeking election. If you have questions you’d like to share with our mayoral candidates, please email to Line at email@example.com.”
WHAT: Yelm Chamber Candidates Forum
WHEN: Tuesday, October 10, 2017 @ 11:30 am – 1:00 pm
WHERE: Yelm Community Center, 301 2nd St SE
COST: $20 for members, $25 for non-members – includes lunch catered by Yelm Casa Mia.
– Editor’s note:
Unfortunately, the one hour allotted after lunch to an introduction of all of the candidates, plus questions placed to the mayoral candidates, is the ONLY opportunity for the voting public to hear from all of these potential future city leaders, and the public has to pay to do so.
A one-hour Chamber member luncheon, in a controlled atmosphere, is a very poor manner in which our city’s voters can hear directly from those who are running to represent them for the next four years. From here on, I call on Mr. Wagar’s Nisqually Valley News to host an open-to-the-public and proper candidates’ Town Hall forum at no charge, which was halted here in September 2005 by his predecessor, Nisqually Valley News Publisher/Editor Keven Graves.
Time to end The Old Guard small-town politics control of the message who omit the public.
