“On Tuesday November 14th at 6:00pm the city of Yelm will make a proclamation designate (sic) it as a Purple Heart City. [The] event will now take place in the Yelm Community Center at 301 Second Street, Yelm, WA 98597. The event should not last long as they have a city council meeting shortly after this event. – About the Purple Heart City Program in Washington
Yelm will be the 3rd in Washington to be a Purple Heart City, along with the 2nd one, Rainier (Feb. 2017), and first one, Spokane (Feb. 2015). Thurston County became the 1st Purple Heart County last May, and I-5 a Purple Heart Trail (Aug 2013).

Chartered by Congress in 1958, The Military Order of the Purple Heart is composed of military men and women who received the Purple Heart Medal for wounds suffered in combat. Although our membership is restricted to the combat wounded, we support all veterans and their families with a myriad of nation-wide programs by Chapters and National Service Officers.
