I wanted to let ya’ll know that I’m running for reelection for Yelm City Council [Position 6].

It has been an honor to serve the people of Yelm these past 4 years on the City Council. I wanted to let everyone know that I am running for reelection and will officially file for my same position next week. While Yelm doesn’t have any term limits for city council, I have set a two term limit for myself and wont seek a 3rd term should I be reelected.

My #1 priority hasn’t changed and will always remain public safety. While we aren’t at 2 officers on duty at all times, we are getting closer. On the city council we have added new patrol officers, created a new Sargent position, and updated our police vehicles. I’ve gone on ride alongs with a majority of the police officers and have gotten to really know the wonderful people who serve our community. We have an excellent police force and it will continue to get better.

My other major priority is keeping Yelm an affordable place to live. If you ever have the chance to read The Law by Frederick Bastiat, it would give you insight on how I form my decisions on the council regarding fiscal matters. If you dont want to read it, just know that I am the most fiscally conservative member on the city council and rarely support tax, fee, or utility rate increases.

Lastly, the reason I love being on city council and want to run again is because I truly love being a public servant and helping others. In my capacity as a city councilmember I am able to be a voice for those in our community that otherwise wouldn’t be heard. If you ever have an issue with government, please do not hesitate to contact me. Dont worry if it isnt city related, if I cant help you I will put you in touch with someone who can.

I am so grateful for those who supported me when I first ran for city council in 2015 and again when I ran for Mayor in 2017 which I lost by 14 votes. I know I may have lost support from folks on certain issues that you may disagree with me on, but to quote President Reagan, “The person who agrees with you 80 percent of the time is a friend and an ally, not a 20 percent traitor.”

For more details on my other priorities or to learn more about me, please visit my website joedepinto.com. I am also pretty responsive on FB, feel free to message me there too with any questions or if you want to meet up to discuss something. Thanks for reading this rather lengthy post, I hope I can earn your vote in November! #ThisIsOURTown #Yelm
