- Editor’s note: I am elated to report this honor Yelm’s award-winning photographer Rory Sagner received from her 5th published National Geographic photo, especially that this evolved from meeting the rabbi at Yelm’s first annual Menorah Lighting in the Park last December.
“National Geographic “Your Shot” Editors selected Sagner’s photo”
- From Rory Sagner: “I am over the moon with joy as I saw this morning that my photo “UPSHERNISH DANCE” was just published in a National Geographic Your Shot story called “Rites of Passage!” It was one of 25 photos chosen out of over 5000 from around the world! This is now my 5th photo published in a NGYS story. Focus and hard work create wonderful things in our lives!
“Here’s the link to the story and my photo is the 15th down on the page: https://yourshot.nationalgeographic.com/stories/rites-passage/

“I was asked earlier this year to come and take photos for the Rabbi and his family at the Upshernish (shearing) ceremony for his son. I’d met him and his family at Yelm’s first annual Menorah Lighting in the Park last December. I probably took at least 200 photos or more and spent many hours editing the best of them for their family. Interestingly enough, a few months later the Rites of Passage assignment was posted calling for submissions and the Rabbi gave me permission to submit a couple of those photos.”
Congratulations to Rory Sagner!
