“Take Precautions Against Elder Financial Abuse and Fraud with Prestige Senior Living”
What: Prestige Senior Living at Rosemont invites the Yelm community to attend a free information session on Thursday, February 20, at 5:30 p.m. to learn about the dangers of and potential for elder finance abuse and fraud and discover how older adults can protect themselves from email phishing, financial scams and more.
According to the U.S. Consumer Financial Protections Bureau, reports of suspicious financial activity involving older adults totals upward of $35 billion each year and continues to grow. During this free session, Jane Walker, Yelm branch manager and loan officer from Olympia Federal Savings and Elena G. Huizar from the Consumer Protection Division of the Office of the Washington State Attorney General will guide attendees through the different types of scams. They will also share information on how older adults and their loved ones can set safeguards to prevent financial exploitation.
Walker has over 25 years of banking experience and joined the Yelm community in 2015 after being hand-selected to open and manage the Yelm Ave. location. She is joined by Huizar, who has been with the Office of the Attorney General for more than a decade. As a public educator, Huizar travels the state helping people understand their rights under the Consumer Protection Act, which prevents businesses from taking advantage of customers.
