“Sen. Randi Becker announces retirement from Senate at end of current term”
- Editor’s note: Senator Becker represents LD2 in the state legislature, which includes areas of Pierce and Thurston counties, with Eatonville, Graham, Orting, Rainier, Roy, and Yelm.
- Two Republicans have announced they will run for her seat: Graham Fire Commissioner Gina Blanchard-Reed and Orting Mayor Josh Penner. [A third Republican candidate announced: Ronda Litzenberger, a current Eatonville School Board rep.]
- Unless a candidate comes forward, LD2 will once again have no Democrat representation in the statehouse!
“After 12 years of service in the Washington State Legislature, Sen. Randi Becker, Senate Republican Caucus Chair has announced her retirement from public office. Becker, R-Olympia plans to finish her current term but will not run for re-election in 2020.
“‘It has truly been my honor to represent the 2nd legislative district for the past 12 years. I am grateful my constituents trusted me to represent their voice and fight for their individual rights for over a decade. This has been the most challenging job that I’ve ever had, and the most humbling. Each year I served and spoke with people from my communities and around the state and I was reminded of how fortunate we are in this country. We have the ability to be involved, to serve and to speak out about the things that matter to us!'”
