From Bloodworks Northwest Community Engagement Liaison Jenni McCoy:
Dear Yelm Community:Thank you once again for your warm hospitality in Yelm, where we worked hard to save lives together! As you know, the Yelm Community Center is one of our team’s favorite places to set up a PopUp Donor Center, and we are always thankful for the hospitality you show to us and our donors. [A PopUp Donor Center was in Yelm 2 weeks ago.]
The culture of giving that you have created over the years and continue to promote surrounding donating blood is one of the biggest reasons for us to say THANK YOU!! One of the main reasons people don’t donate blood is because they haven’t been asked, so together, we are changing that!
Our records show that we had 160 donors make appointments to donate; of those, 119 registered to donate, and 92 units of whole blood and one Super Red were collected. The blood collected is used by the 90+ hospitals in western Washington and Oregon that we supply.
We registered 20 first-time donors, so congratulations on getting the word out to those that haven’t had the chance to donate before. Our hope is that donors will return every 56 days to regularly donate blood.
We have 29 donors already rebooked for their appointments at our next drive in the beautiful City of Yelm: September 28, 29, October 5 & 6.We couldn’t fulfill our mission without the help of people like you, so thank you again!Thankfully,
Jenni McCoy,
Community Engagement Liaison
