  • Editor’s note: Pathetic that the Yelm area can not get citizens to serve on public Boards and Commissions.
  • One does not have to reside in Yelm city limits to apply.

City of Yelm Has Openings on its Boards, Commissions

By Brandon Hansen for the Nisqually Valley News:

“The city of Yelm has several open positions on its boards and commissions that are geared at getting civic input from its residents.

“The boards and commissions advise the city’s mayor and council on how to conduct business.

The city has openings on the tree advisory board, the historic preservation commission, the arts commission, the parks advisory committee and the lodging tax advisory committee.

“The groups typically gather at least once a quarter or once a month in meetings that last from an hour to an hour and a half, although the amount of time sometimes varies.

“The boards and committees are purely advisory but their feedback is needed and used by the city’s elected officials to make decisions.

“Members of the groups need to be residents in or around Yelm. The mayor makes the appointment, which then goes in front of the city council for a vote.”

“Each board or committee member has a four-year term. The terms are staggered so they don’t expire at the same time.”
