City of Yelm leaders making news – provide community updates!

+ Nisqually Valley News: Ashley Lea Brooks Appointed to Yelm City Council – The Yelm City Council appointed its newest member at a meeting on Oct. 11. Ashley Lea Brooks was selected to fill the position six seat that was vacated by former council member Line Roy.

Leaders in Yelm Provide Updates During Community Conversation Session

From the Nisqually Valley News:

“Several community leaders gathered at Mr. Doug’s restaurant on Wednesday, Oct. 12 for the monthly “community conversation” meeting.

“Mayor Joe DePinto began the meeting shortly after noon and discussed the city’s appointment of its newest council member, Ashley Brooks, who was selected through a ranked choice type of vote by the city council.”

“DePinto also noted the city is moving forward with its water reclamation project, which is the biggest project in city history. The project is estimated to cost a little under $33 million.”

“Colt also mentioned upgrades at Cochrane Memorial Park and possibly a new veterans park are in the works for 2023. Both of the projects are in the early stages of planning.

“Yelm’s Chief of Police Rob Carlson provided an update on the city’s police department.

“‘The biggest thing going on in our police department right now is our new hires,’ Carlson said. ‘We’re continuing to get new faces in here.'”

“The next community conversation meeting will be held on Nov. 9 at Casa Mia.”
