“1968: Martin Luther King Jr. is assassinated“
- Editor’s note: I recall that Thursday evening, April 4th, in 1968, like this occurred yesterday.
- Our nation was on the precipice of being ripped apart from a war, not unlike today.
“The civil rights leader was assassinated on a balcony of the Lorraine Motel in Memphis, Tennessee, U.S., at the age of 39.
A day before his death, the global peace icon (2nd R) had delivered his famous speech titled ‘I’ve Been to the Mountaintop,’ saying: “Well, I don’t know what will happen now. We’ve got some difficult days ahead. But it really doesn’t matter with me now, because I’ve been to the mountaintop.”
His [accused] shooter, James Earl Ray [who always denied he was the shooter, rather the fall-guy], was arrested on June 8 at the Heathrow Airport in London, England, and sentenced to life imprisonment,” by MSN. Read more
