Auditor’s Office Receives Award for Financial Reporting

The Thurston County Auditor’s Financial Services Team received their 16th consecutive Annual Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting. Thurston County was recognized by the Government Financial Officers Association (GFOA) for their exceptional financial reporting practices. 

“Thurston County has a deeply ingrained culture of financial compliance, controls, and outstanding accounting staff,” said. Mary Hall, the Thurston County Auditor, who oversees the financial services division and serves as the Chief Financial Officer for the county. 
 
The GFOA award makes it easier for the county to apply for grants, lowers the county’s bond rating, and demonstrates to taxpayers that their tax dollars are spent with accountability and integrity. 

Thurston County is one of only a few counties in Washington that exceeds the State Auditor’s minimum requirements by producing an Annual Comprehensive Financial Report (ACFR). The Certificate of Achievement recognizes the ACFR for the 2021 fiscal year, which is the latest report available. 

Each ACFR covers a fiscal year from January 1 to December 31. Financial staff are currently in the process of compiling the ACFR for the 2022 fiscal year. ACFRs from previous years are accessible on the Auditor’s Financial Reports webpage at ThurstonAuditor.gov. 

The Auditor’s Financial Services team offers direct financial services and guidance to Thurston County offices and departments in areas such as accounting, accounts payable and receivable, payroll, financial reporting, and grants management.
