Joe DePinto in State Legislature

Yelm City Councilor Joe DePinto is covered in a high profile, front-page story in the Nisqually Valley News this week about the challenges he had at the Mayor and City Council Study Session on January 23rd in raising the issue of funding the lack of unfilled police positions in Yelm. You may remember this has been covered here previously, as DePinto and newly-elected Councilors Carmody and Stillwell campaigned on Public Safety issues, which led to the election of these three non-incumbent Councilors, something Yelm has not seen in decades.

Editor’s note:
In this story, the public is beginning to see how the city focuses to fund an end-run around two defeated public ballots for a Community Center, yet can not vote for proper Police staffing in our town!
BRAVO to Councilor DePinto for having the courage to raise this issue and for following his campaign platform, which led to his overwhelming election here.
Where the majority of the last dozen years councilors asked few questions and rubber-stamped most everything, the newly elected Councilors have attempted to gather information and asked key questions to properly do their jobs in responsibly casting votes on key Agenda Action items. We are coming to learn that they have been stone-walled at almost every turn, especially on budget inquiries, and now this has reached the front pages on the newspaper.
Stay tuned for more!
