I was so inspired by the story of Yelm’s Scott Deutsch from the local newspaper that I contacted and requested if Mr. Deutsch would share his story with all of you – in his own words.
Here is his unique entry:

Scott Deutsch a resident of Yelm, just created an app for the Android platform called Life Skills Winner, which teaches social and life skills to people that are on the autism spectrum and other special needs individuals. Having a sister, Marcy, who is autistic, Scott knows first hand the problems that people that are on the autism spectrum have.

Using his knowledge from DeVry University and Keller Graduate School of Management, he created WiseMind Studios. Originally, he was looking for a job, but the game industry was really not looking for entry programmers that had no published titles. Therefore, Scott created WiseMind Studios and created Life Skills Winner.

Scott was lucky enough to get into a business incubator in Tacoma called William Factory Small Business Incubator as a desk tenant.

Scott had help from Open Door Autism and Autism Awareness of Washington by getting feedback for Life Skills Winner.

There are two versions of Life Skills Winner on Android, pro and lite. The lite version is free and the pro version is paid. However, if you buy the pro version, part of the revenue will be donated to autism charities/organizations. This makes it a simple way to help the autism community while the child learns.

The tasks in the lite version has the following: brushing teeth, brushing hair, and washing hands. The paid version has the following: the previous 3 tasks, making a sandwich, putting shoes on the right feet, and the correct distance to stand when speaking to someone. The pro version will get more tasks.

Life Skills Winner teaches these tasks in an interactive way, which has positive feedback like getting points when completing a step in a task. With these points, the tasker can obtain prizes that the parent has put in the app. The parent decides how many points it takes for a prize to be obtained. Each task also has resources like videos besides the video game format.

Scott is currently in the process of porting the app to iOS devices.

WiseMind Studios is looking for angel investors to invest in his idea so he could hire people to get more tasks out quicker.

Future ideas of this app could be an achievement system, analytics of what the tasked does so the parent/care giver knows what they are learning, sync between devices, etc…

[Today, March 28th is their last day of operations open-to-the-public in Yelm!]

Former Mt. Rainier Clinic owner John A Cranton, ARNP said this in his letter to patients:

Meetings are held at the Yelm Adult Community Center – Senior Center 16530 SE 103 Avenue in Yelm. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. with classes starting at 7 p.m. The first hour is designated as a general garden class, followed by a half hour break for participants to share information and problem-solve regarding various garden issues. The second hour class session is dedicated to specific seed saving information.

Please join Thurston County Commissioner Sandra Romero, as she hosts her monthly informal coffee hours in Rainier & Yelm on Monday, March 28th.

Join us in welcoming this months special guest Thurston Countys newly elected Prosecuting Attorney, Jon Tunheim. The Prosecuting Attorneys office is highly skilled and advocates for public safety, seeking justice in criminal cases for victims and those accused. Jon is particularly interested in hearing from citizens about what types of criminal activity concern citizens and how his office can keep the public informed.

Commissioner Romero stated, This month we continue to learn about the different facets of local governments law enforcement. Jon joined the Prosecuting Attorneys office in 1990 and served the office as
Chief Deputy since 2003. He has a wealth of knowledge and we are excited to have him join us.

Commissioner Romero provides coffee to participants. She is the representative of District 2, which includes Yelm, Lacey, and Rainier.

Actor and New York Times best-selling author Roseanne Barr will be a special guest lecturer during the Primary Retreat at Ramtha’s School of Enlightenment (RSE) in Yelm, WA, on Saturday, March 26 starting at 7 pm PT (10 pm ET). Ms. Barr will be discussing the spiritual aspects of her new book Roseannearchy: Dispatches from the Nut Farm during a special session that will also be broadcasted to students worldwide via a live Internet stream….

“I am very moved and very touched to have been asked to discuss expanding feminine spiritual paradigms-those things that I wrote about in Roseannearchy,” Ms. Barr said.

Ms. Barr’s speech will follow a lecture from RSE founder JZ Knight when she opens the primary retreat at 3 pm PT / 6 pm ET with a unique and insightful talk about how to prepare for Earth changes.

Both lectures are $50 each and open only to students. Since 1988, thousands have attended RSE and the school currently has more than 6,000 students as well as many more who have attended special retreats and seminars.
