– The 2016 Annual Yelm Dollars for Scholars Auction March 5th raised $125,000
Announced at the Yelm Chamber Forum on Tuesday, March 8 was the “phenomenal success” of the 2016 Annual Yelm Dollars for Scholars Auction March 5 raised $125,000, as stated by Dollars for Scholars Board member JW Foster, and underscored by Yelm Community Schools Superintendent Andy Wolf.
This year’s Yelm Dollars for Scholars event featured a Silent Auction, Taco Bar and Live Auction by auctioneer Larry Schorno, who passed the baton in leading this event to daughter auctioneer Cindy Schorno.
Noted were Republican officials from around the area out en-force and included: Rep. JT Wilcox (R-Yelm, though he resides in Roy), new LD2 Rep. Andrew Barkis (R-Olympia), former Thurston County Sheriff and Thurston County Commission candidate Gary Edwards (running as an Independent from Yelm), Thurston County Sheriff John Snaza, and Thurston County Commissioner Bud Blake (R-Olympia).
[Editor’s Note: This writer hopes that with so many partisan officials present in an election year, this event is not distracted in the future by more focus on them than on the students. This year’s event could have been balanced by having Congressional Rep. Denny Heck and County Commissioner Romero present, as an example.]
