Yelm Community Schools announced at the March 14, 2006 Chamber of Commerce Forum that they just enrolled their 5,000th pupil, which doubled their student numbers in 25 years. What they did not say is that student enrollments could double again in as little as 5 years with new housing developments approved by the Yelm City Council. [Ed. Note: You do the math; 1,800 new single family homes in Yelms City Limits to be built within 5 years & each with 2.1 students average = 3,600+ new students, plus the growth in school enrollments from the county outside of city limits, and Yelm could well have 10,000+ students within 5 years. Why are you so negative on the new housing coming to Yelm? Don’t be so afraid of change. A lot of really great people are moving there and it will bring great growth and character to the town. oh, and that little thing called money that the town needs so deperatly! Even if you want to continue to be a “Debbie-Downer” about the whole situation you should probably just accept that the growth is coming reguardless to how much you complain about it and find a way to make peace w/ it.
On a different note, thank you for doing this site…we are moving to yelm in the soon to be future and this is the only place I can find information and photos of the town. Again, try to feel better about the growth…you really don’t have a lot to worry about…it will be a good thing!
