The Children’s School of Excellence, located in Rainier, Washington, held their 7th Annual Auction on Sunday, June 27th at the Red Lion Hotel in Olympia. Over 500 people gathered for the festivities, starting at 3pm for a Silent Auction, followed by a seated three-course dinner and a Live Auction with World Auto Auctioneer Champion Danny Schorno and his sister Cindy, children of Auctioneer Larry Schorno.
Attendees were from a broad spectrum of the community, including CSE families, friends, supporting local business owners and special guests.
The highlight opening the evening’s festivities was a performance from the students themselves. The most anticipated item for auction was the Divine Feast with Ramtha for six guests, donated by JZ Knight, catered by Hell’s Kitchen Winner and Actress, Linda Evans in her home with the talented chef, Master Garola, which garnered $76,000. Marlee Simmons was given the honor to bid on behalf of an anonymous party to make the winning Divine Feast entry.
CSE Board of Trustees President Omey Nandyal gave a touching tribute naming scholarships after recently-deceased CSE supporter Sir Robert – the Sir Robert Jones Scholarships.
Leading off donations for Sir Robert Jones Scholarships with full-year tuition endowments ($6,800) towards financial aid was the Klein Family Foundation (Yael & Steve Klein), Linda Evans, and Rebecca & James Capezio, which launched a paddle call for Financial Aid raising a total of over $40,000 to provide financial assistance to students who, without such assistance would not have the opportunity for a CSE education.
“We are very proud to announce that officially $181,000 at CSEs 7th Annual Auction. This was another very successful auction, while not a record in terms of dollars, but in community spirit and support. There was more good will, volunteerism, and guests in attendance whose involvement, care, friendship and commitment keep our school growing and thriving, in particular during this challenging economic environment. That so many opened their billfolds and their hearts to these children and this School is so inspiring. The Board, Faculty and Staff are honored and our students and families are blessed and treasured by a truly special and remarkable community,” expressed a CSE Board of Trustees member to the Yelm Community Blog at the close of the evening.
The $181,000 raised this year is a 27% increase over 2009’s $142,197.49 donations, both impressive amounts for a small, private school in rural Washington.
