Amber Gunn of the Evergreen Freedom Foundation reports,
“Beginning in fiscal year 2013 (two years from this July), Washington will face an $8.7 billion deficit. The projection is courtesy of the state’s Office of Financial Management, which released an updated six-year budget outlook today. The 2011-13 budget deficit is projected around $3 billion.”

And,
“Gov. Chris Gregoire plans to head to Washington, D.C. this week to make a case for additional federal Medicaid dollars…
If the Medicaid payment doesn’t come through, Washington’s budget reserves could be wiped out. And the state would face about $200 million in additional budget cuts.
The governor could make those cuts across-the-board, or call the Legislature in for a special session to deal with the problem.
Gregoire is slated to appear with other governors at a news conference Wednesday in Washington, D.C,” quoting The Olympian.
